Native business intelligence, built inside NetSuite

Tessera brings real BI to NetSuite — governed metrics, native visualizations, and AI narration that live entirely within the platform. No connectors. No exports. No data leaves your environment.

The problem

NetSuite holds the data. The insight is missing.

Every NetSuite customer faces the same wall: the data is there, but reaching it means exports, third-party tools, and reports Finance can't fully vouch for.

No native BI layer

NetSuite ships with saved searches and basic reports. Real business intelligence — metric definitions, trend analysis, variance explanation — requires tools that live outside the platform.

Data leaves the building

Every connector-based BI tool copies your financial data somewhere else, synced on a schedule, governed by a different permission model. Finance hates it. IT hates it. Auditors hate it.

Numbers no one signs off on

When the metric lives in a spreadsheet or a BI tool with unclear lineage, nobody knows exactly what's included. The Controller won't put her name on it.

No reference point for "good"

Your gross margin is 61%. Is that good? Without industry benchmarks — by business type, size, and segment — internal metrics are directional at best.

"When the CFO asks where a number came from, our Controller can show her work — because every metric in the dashboard uses her definitions."

The governing design principle behind every Tessera decision

How Tessera works

BI that runs on NetSuite's own engine

Tessera is a native SuiteApp. It deploys inside your NetSuite account and never moves data anywhere. Metrics are defined once, governed continuously, and visible wherever you work.

Define your metrics

A guided wizard captures source records, filters, transformations, and business context — documented and versioned, not buried in a formula.

Visualize natively

Charts and KPI tiles appear directly on your NetSuite dashboard — no iframes, no pop-outs, no separate login. Role-scoped, always current.

Understand with AI

Tessera's AI layer reads metric context, explains variances in plain language, and flags anomalies — grounded in your actual data and business definitions.

Audit everything

Every metric definition is versioned. Every computation is traceable. "How was that calculated on December 31st?" — Tessera can answer.

Benchmark against peers

Overlay your metrics against curated industry benchmarks — by business model, revenue range, and segment. Know whether your DSO or gross margin is a problem or a strength.

Design principles

Built for the people who sign the numbers

Every decision in Tessera traces back to one constraint: the output must be something a Controller would put her name on.

  • 100% native to NetSuite Tessera installs as a SuiteApp. No data leaves NetSuite's environment. No ETL pipelines, no external databases, no data warehouse required.
  • Computation lineage is always visible Every metric shows its full derivation: source records, applied filters, transformation steps. Business users can follow the logic without analyst access.
  • Metric definitions are versioned, not edited Changing a metric creates a new version with a change note and a named approver. The historical record is immutable. Comparisons across periods are always apples-to-apples.
  • AI explains, humans decide AI narration in Tessera is grounded in the MDL semantic layer — your field definitions, your business context. It interprets data; it doesn't substitute for judgment.
  • No silent staleness Every number shows when it was last computed. Cache age is always visible. There is no metric that updates on an unknown schedule.
  • Internal metrics plus external context Your numbers mean more when you know where you stand. Tessera overlays curated industry benchmarks on your metrics — so "61% gross margin" becomes "12 points above median for your segment."

Industry benchmarks

Know where you stand, not just where you are

Tessera includes curated benchmark overlays for Products, Services, and Subscription businesses — so your metrics are always shown in the context of what good looks like for a company like yours.

SaaS

Subscription benchmarks

Net Revenue Retention, Gross Revenue Retention, CAC Payback, MRR growth, churn, and expansion revenue — benchmarked against companies at your ARR range and go-to-market motion.

Svcs

Services benchmarks

Utilization rate, revenue per billable head, project margin, DSO, and bill rate realization — benchmarked against professional services firms at comparable scale and delivery model.

Prod

Product benchmarks

Gross margin, inventory turns, COGS as a percentage of revenue, fulfillment cost, and return rate — benchmarked against product businesses in your category and revenue tier.

Overlay

Shown alongside your metrics

Benchmarks appear as reference bands directly on Tessera charts — median, 25th, and 75th percentile for your peer group. No separate report. No manual lookup.

Scoped

Matched to your business type

Tessera asks you to define your business model at setup. Benchmarks are filtered to your segment automatically. Mixed models are supported.

Sourced

Licensed, curated data

Benchmark data is sourced from established industry data providers and updated regularly. Not crowdsourced, not self-reported — data you can cite in a board deck.
